Rita Catherine (Davis) Dodd, age 75, resident of Horn Lake, Mississippi, departed this life Tuesday morning, February 27, 2024.
Rita was born May 2, 1948 in New Albany, Mississippi, the daughter of the late Eugene Davis and Thelma Thornton Davis. She graduated with a degree in Bible from Bible Faith Training Center and later graduated from Floral Design School. She was employed for many years as a florist and was a data input specialist with the IRS before her retirement.
Rita accepted Jesus in her early twenties because of “Door to Door” evangelism being done by twelve-year-old youth from Horn Lake Baptist Church. In tears she confessed her sins and believed in Jesus. She was later baptized in the Holy Ghost and was called into the ministry of Prayer and Intercession; Rita spent her days in prayer as much as possible.
Rita attended Whitehaven Assembly of God, Honey Rock Fellowship, Praise Life Church, and her last years were spent at Success Church.
She loved to intercede in prayer, Bible study and “sharing the love of Jesus” with all who would listen. Jesus truly was her “best friend”. She was very creative and artistic and enjoyed writing poetry, writing songs, anything flowers and gardening. She really had a deep love and connection with nature and God’s creation. Springtime was her favorite time of the year, butterflies and redbirds were special and held deep spiritual meaning to her.
Ms. Dodd is survived by her daughter, Lisa Dodd Rhodes (Ahmed); three sons, Doug Dodd, Danny Dodd and David Dodd (Shanna); three brothers, Tubby Davis, Claude Davis and Tim Davis; five grandchildren, Michelle Simpson (Derrick), Miriam Kayed, Taylor Simpson, Judah Dodd and Aiden Rhodes; and two great-grandchildren, Kaden Simpson and Kipton Simpson.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Roger Davis and two sisters, Barbara Davis and Wanda McCaslin.
Funeral Services for Ms. Dodd were held at 11 A.M. Saturday, March 9, 2024 at Glenn's Chapel Church with Pastor Kevin Smith of Success Church in Southaven, Mississippi and Pastor David Dodd of Awakened Love Ministries, officiating. Interment followed in Glenview Cemetery at New Albany, Mississippi.
Those honored to serve as pallbearers were Doug Dodd, Danny Dodd, David Dodd, Derrick Simpson, Kaden Simpson and Judah Dodd. Honorary pallbearers were Claude Davis, Tubby Davis, Tim Davis, Aiden Rhodes and Kipton Simpson.
The family requests that memorials be directed to Success Church, 4174 Hillsdale Drive, Olive Branch, MS 38654 for the continuation for the preaching of the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
If you are reading this and knew her, she would say, “Jesus Loved You and I Do Too”. She loved you very deeply.
