Robert "Bob" Edward Fitzgerald

Robert Edward “Bob” Fitzgerald, resident of Memphis, U.S. Army Veteran and father of Gale Tisdale of the Oakland Community departed this life Friday morning, May 3, 2013 at the Methodist North Hospital in Memphis where he had been a patient for 3½ weeks. He was 77 years of age and died following an extended illness.

Services of Remembrance for Mr. Fitzgerald were conducted at 2 P.M. Tuesday, May 7th at the Graveside with Rev. Kent Bailey of Somrville officiating. Interment with Military Honors followed in the Fayette County Memorial Park Cemetery. Arrangements were provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Homes & Cremation Center — West Chapel at Oakland.

Mr. Fitzgerald was born January 6, 1936 in Shelby County. He was preceded in daeth by his parents, George Martin Fitzgerald and Icey Haley Fitzgerald. He received his education in the Catholic School System in Memphis and continued his education at Christian Brothers University. As a young person, he served his country in the United States Army and was married to the former Betty Hogan, a native of Trenton, TN and retired bookkeeper, who survives.

Mr. Fitzgerald was an accountant for much of his life and employed by the Universal Warehouse in Memphis as an accountant for over 30 years before his retirement 12 years ago. He was a Christian and a lifelong resident of the Memphis area. In earlier years, he enjoyed fishing and golf. Working in his yard and being with family were pleasures that he received throughout his life.

In addition to his wife of 49 years, Mr. Fitzgerald is survived by his daughter, Gale Tisdale (Robert) of Oakland; his son, Randy Morgan of Memphis; three grandchildren, five great grandchildren, one niece and one nephew. He was preceded in death by his beloved grandson, Beau Tisdale.
