ROBERT WAYNE (BOB) ROSE, a resident of the Williston Community, retired Contractor and World War II Veteran died at 6:45 P.M. Wednesday, March 11, 2009 at the Jackson-Madison County General Hospital in Jackson, Tennessee where he had been a patient for two weeks. He was 85 years of age and died following a five-month illness.
Graveside Funeral Services with Military Honors were conducted for Mr. Rose at 1 P.M. Friday, March 13th with Rev. Ricky Burns, Pastor of the Williston Baptist Church, officiating. Interment followed in the Evergreen Cemetery at Williston. Arrangements were provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Home-Main Chapel of Somerville.
Mr. Rose was born January 5, 1924, in Manhattan Kansas. He was preceded in death by his parents, Harve D. Rose and Fanny May Baker Rose. He received his education in the Kansas Public School System and enlisted in the United States Navy in 1943 during the World War II Period, serving in the South Pacific before receiving his discharge in 1945.
Mr. Rose was married in 1945 to the former Della Mae Barker who preceded him in death on August 18, 1999.
He was a self-employed Contractor for many years working in both residential and commercial developments and bridge building. Mr. Rose was a multi-talented person who developed new innovations for a number of building techniques in his profession.
He was a former resident of Leavenworth, Kansas before moving to Fayette County in 1980. Of the Baptist faith, Mr. Rose will be remembered for his strong work ethic and being a person who took much pride in his vocation.
An accomplished aviator in younger years, he enjoyed flying small planes after obtaining his pilot's license. An independent person throughout his life, he continued to maintain his home and lived alone until his recent illness.
Survivors of Mr. Rose include two sons, Richard Rose and wife Rhonda of Williston and Michael Aungst and wife Linda of Stanton; five grandchildren: Derrick Rose, Dustin Wilburn, Jason Bernard, Cody Aungst, Stacy Davis; and one great-granddaughter, Amanda Allen.
The family request that Memorials be directed to the Fayette County Chapter of the American Cancer Society.
