Robert "Roby" Madison Nye

November 13, 1938 — June 17, 2012

Robert Madison "Roby" Nye, age 73, resident of the Hickory Withe Community in Fayette County and husband of Gena Nye died Sunday morning, June 17, 2012 at his residence.

Services of Remembrance for Mr. Nye will be at 2 Thursday afternoon at the Peebles West Funeral Chapel at Oakland with visitation one hour before services. Interment will be private and arrangements will be provided by the Peebles West Funeral Chapel at Oakland.

Mr. Nye was born November 13, 1938 in Memphis. He was preceded in death by his parents, Grace Dries and Garnett (Ted) Nye. He received his education in the Shelby County Public School System. He retired from the City of Memphis General Services after 25 years.

In 1973, he helped form the company, Traf-Mark Inc. with two partners, Tim Tabor and Jack Harper. After many years of hard work and very successful growth of his business, he retired at age 58 to pursue his hobbies and interests.

Known his entire life as Roby, he was an active outdoorsman, devoted Tigers and Grizzlies Basketball fan, skilled fisherman, bowler, antique car lover, RV camping enthusiast, excellent crossword puzzler, joke teller and a pretty good rummy player.

Mr. Nye is survived by his wife of 35 years, Gena Nye; his daughter, Laurie Nye; his son, Mark Nye; his stepson, Michael Miranne; his stepdaughter, Jackie Rowland; two sisters, Garnet Smith, Julia Dew; his grandson, Zachary Nye; and numerous nieces and nephews. Mr. Nye was adored as a father figure and brother to many and left behind countless friends, including his fishing buddies, bowling buddies and his "prayer meeting" group.

The family requests that memorials be directed to the St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
