Robert Thomas “Tommy” Sparkman, Jr., age 76, resident of Williston, Tennessee and husband of Ann Sparkman, departed this life Wednesday afternoon, January 24, 2018 at the St. Francis Hospital in Bartlett.
Services of Remembrance with Military Honors for Mr. Sparkman will be conducted at 2 P.M. Sunday, January 28, 2018 at the Peebles Main Funeral Chapel in Somerville with Bro. Kevin Treadway officiating. Interment will follow in the Evergreen Cemetery at Williston. A visitation for Mr. Sparkman will be from 12 noon until 2 P.M. Sunday, January 28, 2018 at the Peebles Main Funeral Chapel in Somerville. Arrangements will be provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Homes & Cremation Center – Main Chapel of Somerville.
Mr. Sparkman was born May 13, 1941 in Williston, Tennessee and was a lifelong resident of the Fayette County area. He was a graduate of Fayette County High School Class of 1959 and served in the United States Army National Guard as a young person. He was married September 14, 1963 to the former Dolly Ann Spain and was of the Primitive Baptist faith.
Mr. Sparkman was a truck driver for W.E. Graham Mail Company and was also an independent truck operator for many years. He was employed at Carrier Corporation in Collierville before his retirement. He enjoyed farming, raising cows and special times with his grandchildren, especially riding them on his tractor.
Mr. Sparkman is survived by his wife of 54 years, Ann Sparkman of Williston, TN; three sons, Robert Wayne Sparkman (Rebecca) of Williston, TN, Ronald Dewayne Sparkman of Williston, TN, Paul Darrell Sparkman of Williston, TN; two brothers, Michael Sparkman (Sandra) of Williston, TN, Charles Sparkman (Sheryl) of Albany, NY; seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert Thomas Sparkman, Sr. and Charlene Morris Sparkman and his son, Robert Thomas Sparkman, III.
Those honored to serve as pallbearers will be Shane Hart, Moose Sides, Chris Sterritt, Tommy Lanzarotto, Leroy Shaw, Robert Sparkman and Paul Sparkman.
The family requests that memorials be directed to the Shelby County Chapter of the American Heart Association, 5384 Poplar Avenue, Suite 100, Memphis, TN 38119.
