Ronald Winters “Ron” Moore, resident of Memphis, United States Veteran and father of Betsy Pardue of Lakeland, departed this life Wednesday morning, April 30, 2014 at the Kirby Pines Manor where he had resided for six years. He was 91 years of age and died following an extended illness.
Graveside Services of Remembrance with Military Honors for Mr. Moore will be at the Thomas Cemetery in Newport, Indiana. Arrangements were provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Homes and Cremation Center — Main Chapel of Somerville.
Mr. Moore was born October 21, 1922 in Clinton, Indiana. He was preceded in death by his parents, Walter Moore and Muriel Winters Moore. He received his education in the Newport, Indiana Public School System and continued his education at the Indiana State University. He was married June 21, 1943 to the former Bette Jo Summerville, his devoted wife of 70 years, who preceded him in death on March 11th of this year.
Mr. Moore had a distinguished military career, serving in the United States Navy as a Pilot and Lieutenant Commander during the World War II and Korean War Periods. He retired from his military career in 1970 after 30 years of dedicated service to his country. He had been a resident of Memphis for a number of years and was a member of the Scenic Hills United Methodist Church.
After retiring from his military career, Mr. Moore served as an inspector for over 20 years for the Holiday Inn Corporation. He was active in numerous community and civic organizations that included Al Chymia Shrine Temple of Memphis, United States Navy Retired Officers Association and “Memphians for America”. Mr. Moore enjoyed golfing and will be remembered for “a life well lived”.
Mr. Moore is survived by his daughter, Betsy Pardue (Larry) of Lakeland; three sons, Dave Moore (Estelle) of Seattle, WA, Jim Moore (Nila) of Dana, IN, John Moore of Cherokee, NC; six grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren.
