ROSA VIRGINIA BORUM ANDERSON

December 26, 1909 — October 29, 2008

ROSA VIRGINIA BORUM ANDERSON, the oldest citizen of Rossville, TN and a person active throughout her lifetime in the civic and religious affairs of her community, died at 11:15 A.M. Wednesday, October 29, 2008 at the Methodist Hospital Fayette in Somerville where she had been a patient for six days. She was 98 years of age and died following a brief illness.

Funeral services for Mrs. Anderson were conducted at 2 P.M. Monday, November 3rd at the Rossville United Methodist Church with the Rev. James "Jim" Griffith, Pastor of the Church, officiating. He was assisted by Dr. Frank Bulle of Collierville, former Pastor of the church. Interment followed in the LaGrange Cemetery at LaGrange, TN. Arrangements were provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Homes-Main Chapel of Somerville.

Mrs. Anderson was born in the New Bethel Community of Fayette County on December 26, 1909 to Harvey Albert and Susie Stone Borum early residents of the Rossville area. She attended school in Rossville and graduated from Fayette County High School in Somerville and from the Union University in Jackson, where she was a member of the Chi Omega Sorority and a campus beauty.

Mrs. Anderson was married for 59 years to Logan Ernest Anderson, whom she wed on June 15, 1937. Mr. Anderson, a landowner, cotton buyer, Fayette County Commissioner, and Chickasaw Electric Board Member, preceded her in death on January 24, 1997.

In earlier years Mrs. Anderson taught school in the Macon and Oakland Communities and substituted for many years at Collierville Elementary School in Collierville. During the time her daughters were in high school Mrs. Anderson served as class sponsor for each of their grades.

Mrs. Anderson was a faithful member of the Rossville United Methodist Church for 93 years where she was the oldest member at the time of her death. She participated in numerous church activities that included serving as Chairman of the Administrative Council and Secretary of the Sunday school.

In earlier years she was an active member of the Rossville Garden Club, where she served as President.

Mrs. Anderson is survived by her two daughters, Bette A. Hurdle of Moscow and Virginia Rose Anderson of Rossville; two grandsons, Jefferson Logan Hurdle (April) of Collierville and John Harvey Hurdle of Moscow; one brother, Harvey Albert Borum (Madolyn) of Jacksonville, FL; sister-in-law, Jean A. McAmis of Greeneville, TN; two nieces and three nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Robert Joseph Borum of Rossville, who died October 31, 2001 at the age of 97.

Those honored to serve as casketbearers were William P. Anderson, Jr., James Robert Borum, Walter Dunn, Jr., K. Kidwell King, Martin Michael, Sr., Dr. Karl Rhea, Sr. and Richard Roberts.

Honorary casketbearers were James Chapman, Martin Michael, Jr., Scott Michael, James K. Morrison, Dr. Karl Rhea, Jr., Robert Rhea, Lowell Salmon and Ken Spencer.
