Rosemarie “Rose” Root Bennis, resident of the Oakland Community and wife of William A. Bennis, departed this life Wednesday evening, March 26, 2014 at the Baptist Trinity Hospice House where she had resided for ten months. She was 81 years of age and died following an extended illness.

Monday, March 31st at the Halls City Cemetery in Halls, Tennessee with Bro. Randy Roark officiating. Mrs. Bennis was born September 24, 1932 in Bartonville, Illinois. She was the fifth daughter of the late Dallas Root and Mary Agnes James Root. She received her education in the Chicago, Illinois Public School System and was married March 29, 1949 to William Andrew Bennis, who survives. Mrs. Bennis enjoyed being a homemaker throughout her life and she was known for her love of children and crossword puzzles.
Many good memories were made in Chicago surrounded by extended family and friends. A move to snowy White Bear Lake, Minnesota in 1962, due to a job transfer, provided the family with new adventures and friendships. After her husband’s retirement, they moved to Tucson, Arizona. This was her favorite climate! After 18 years in Arizona, Mr. and Mrs. Bennis moved to the Oakland Community in 2012 to be near their daughter.
In addition to her husband of almost 65 years, Mrs. Bennis is survived by her daughter, Mary Margaret Prescott (Joe) of Oakland; her son, William John Bennis (Diane) of Somerset, WI; two sisters, Katherine Kapp of Tucson, AZ, Beulah Look of Tucson, AZ; four grandchildren, Joe Prescott, Heidi Lirette, William D. Bennis, Adam Bennis; and seven great grandchildren, Hannah, Cameron, Wyatt, Camille, Abby, Alex and Andrew.
The family requests that memorials be directed to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, P.O. Box 1000, Department 142, Memphis, TN 38148.
