"ROSIE" ANNE WHITBY

December 9, 1951 — January 31, 2009

ROSA ANNE "ROSIE" WHITBY, well-known resident of the Oakland Community, longtime Beautician and wife of Gerald Whitby died at 10:40 A.M. Saturday, January 31, 2009 at her residence on McFadden Drive. She was 57 years of age and died following a three-month illness.

Funeral services for Mrs. Whitby were conducted at 2 P.M. Tuesday, February 3rd at Peebles West Funeral Chapel at Oakland with a longtime friend, Carl Doyle of the Oakland First Baptist Church, officiating. Interment followed in the Fayette County Memorial Park Cemetery on Highway 64. Arrangements were provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Homes-West Chapel of Oakland.

Mrs. Whitby was a native of Memphis born December 9, 1951. She was educated in the Shelby County Public School System. She completed her education as a Cosmetologist in Memphis and was a Beautician throughout her life.

She was married September 22, 1970 to Gerald Whitby, Job Superintendent for Chris Hill Construction Company in Memphis, who survives.

Mr. and Mrs. Whitby were former residents of Memphis and moved to Fayette County in 1977. Mrs. Whitby had owned and operated the Oakland Family Hair Care Center for thirty-one years and remained active in her business until her recent illness.

She was a member of the Oakland First Baptist Church and will be remembered for her dedication to her family, her business and her community.

She enjoyed the companionship of her pet dog, "Oscar."

In addition to her husband, Mrs. Whitby is survived by her son, Jared Whitby of Cocoa, FL; two sisters, Barbara Sands of Liberty, SC and Mildred Adams of Whiteville, TN; three brothers: Ernie Sullivan of Winder, GA; Albert Sullivan of Leesburg, GA and Patrick Sullivan of Memphis; her uncle, William R. Dunning (Carol) of Pittsburgh, PA; her aunt, Barbara Faulk (Harry) of Bartlett; four nieces and ten nephews.

Those honored to serve as casket bearers were Louis Whitby, Kelly Whitby, Robert Adams, Quinn Sullivan, Charles Veglio and Ernest Veglio.
