Roy Daniel Fowler

Roy Daniel Fowler, age 73, resident of Somerville and husband of the late Shirley Ann Roberts Fowler, passed away peacefully at his home after a long, hard fought battle with cancer on Friday afternoon, March 24, 2017.

Services of Remembrance for Mr. Fowler were conducted at 12 Noon Tuesday, March 28, 2017 at the West Funeral Chapel at Oakland with Bro. Eddie Little, pastor of the First Baptist Church in Hickory Withe, officiating. Special music was provided by Bryan Brazelton. Interment followed in the Wesley Cemetery in Sulligent, Alabama. Arrangements were provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Homes & Cremation Center - West Chapel at Oakland.

He was born March 21, 1944 to John Lloyd and Frances Louise (Adams) Fowler in Columbus, MS. He grew up in Lamar County, AL and graduated from Sulligent High School in 1963, where he played football and baseball. After graduation, he married his high school sweetheart, Shirley Ann (Roberts) Fowler. They had three children and were married for 39 years until Ann’s passing in September of 2002. Roy worked at Kellogg’s for 32 years before retiring, and he was active with his church, and enjoyed coaching his children. He loved classic cars, and restored several over his lifetime. He was a soft-spoken advocate for friends, a loving, sacrificial father, and a devoted, faithful husband.

He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Frances, wife Ann and his three brothers Calvin, L.C., and Buddy.  He is survived by his three children, Diana (Kevin), Greg, and Mark (Patti).  He always kept his word, and he will be missed immensely.

Those honored to serve as pallbearers were Roy Martin, Ray Motley, Michael Payne, Chris Parrish, Bill Morrison and Johnny Kolwyck.
