Ruby Jean (Yancey) Bell

August 10, 1946 — March 4, 2014

Ruby Jean Yancey Bell, resident of Holly Springs, Mississippi, native Fayette Countian and wife of the late James “Jim” Bell, departed this life Tuesday evening, March 4, 2014 at the Methodist Hospice Residence in Memphis where she had been a patient for one day. She was 67 years of age and died following an illness of six months.

Services of Remembrance for Mrs. Bell were conducted at 11 A.M. Saturday, March 8th at the Graveside. The officiating minister was Rev. Kent Bailey of Somerville. Interment followed in the Hood Cemetery in the Warren Community. Arrangements were pr ovided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Homes and Cremation Center — Main Chapel of Somerville.

Mrs. Bell was born August 10, 1946 in Fayette County. She was preceded in death by her parents, William Howard Yancey and Edna Carnathan Yancey. She received her education in the Tennessee Public School System and was married August 4, 1994 to James Edwin “Jim” Bell, a machinist for Mitchell & Son Company in Memphis before his retirement. Mr. Bell preceded her in death on January 17, 2005.

Mrs. Bell was a former resident of Indianapolis, Indiana, where she was employed by the Frito-Lay Corporation. She had been a resident of the Holly Springs / Red Banks Community areas since 1986 and was employed as a mail clerk for Orgill Brothers Corporation in Germantown for 28 years before her retirement.

Mrs. Bell will be remembered as a person with a strong work ethic and devoted to her family and the companies that she was associated with. Observing and feeding hummingbirds was a favorite pastime and Mrs. Bell enjoyed flowers, outdoor activities and fishing. She had a passion for the children that were treated by St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital and was involved in the “pop tab” fundraising program for the Ronald McDonald House associated with the research hospital, collecting thousands of “pop tabs” to benefit the patients.

Mrs. Bell is survived by her daughter, Angie Scott (Duane) of Indianapolis, IN; her son, Eddie Ground (Cathy) of Holly Springs, MS; her stepdaughter, Liz Clark of Houston, TX; her stepson, Jim Bell of Houston, TX; her sister, Evelyn Doyle (Billy) of Somerville; two grandchildren, Aaron Scott, Brandi Scott; and three great grandchildren.

In addition to her husband and parents, Mrs. Bell was preceded in death by seven brothers and sisters.

Those honored to serve as casketbearers were James Bryant, Jr., Bobby Hymans, Bill Hymans, Phoenix Feathers, Charles Feathers, Jr. and Bill Yancey.

Honorary casketbearers were Davi d Yancey, Butch Bobbitt and Bobby Yancey.
