Ruby Franklin Crawford, native of Fayette County and wife of the late William Francis Crawford of Williston departed this life Tuesday, August 13, 2013 at The Isle at Cedar Ridge in Cedar Park, Texas. She was 92 years of age and died following a brief illness.
Services of Remembrance for Mrs. Crawford were conducted at 11 A.M. Monday, August 19th at the Graveside with Rev. James Graham of the Williston United Methodist Church officiating. Interment followed in the Somerville City Cemetery. Arrangements were provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Homes and Cremation Center — Main Chapel of Somerville.
Mrs. Crawford was born January 14, 1921 in Fayette County and as a young person lived on the family farm. She was preceded in death by her parents, Harry Alexander Crawford and Bertha Wilson Crawford, early residents of the Williston area. She received her education in the Fayette County Public School System and was married September 17, 1950 to William Francis “Bill” Crawford, also a native of Fayette County and retired employee of the Dow Chemical Company in Lake Jackson, Texas, who preceded her in death.
Mrs. Crawford had been a resident of Texas for many years and was a charter member of the Chapelwood United Methodist Church. She was active in numerous church activities that included the church choir, the United Methodist Women and The Billy Graham Ministries. She was an active member of the Lake Jackson Order of the Eastern Star Chapter 1009 and served in various positions throughout her 50 years of membership.
Mrs. Crawford was a longtime supporter of the Billy Graham Crusades and felt very fortunate to be a member in earlier years of Dr. Beverly Shay’s choir in the Houston, Texas Astrodome. She was also an active volunteer with the Brazosport Memorial Hospital Auxiliary and volunteered at local elementary schools in Brazosport ISD’s HOST Program.
Mrs. Crawford is survived by her daughter, Rebecca Susan Couch; her son, Charles Gerald Crawford, her daughter-in-law, Lisa Colleen Crawford; two grandchildren, William Joseph Crawford, Kristina Ann Crawford; her sister-in-law, Ruby V. Crawford; nieces, Marilyn Riddle, Cecile Hines and nephew, Ed Mattox.
She was also preceded in death by her sister, Gladys Crawford Barnett and her brother, Harry A. Crawford.
Pallbearers were family members and friends and included Ed Mattox, Bill Hines, William J. Crawford and Harvey Crawford.
