Ruby Eleanor (Bishop) Parks

Ruby Eleanor Bishop Parks, age 91, resident of Somerville and wife of the late Curtis Warren Parks, departed this life Monday morning, December 21, 2015 at the National Healthcare Center in Somerville.

Services of Remembrance for Mrs. Parks were conducted at 2 P.M. Wednesday, December 23, 2015 at the Peebles Main Funeral Chapel in Somerville with Dr. Ken Burnette, pastor of the Parks Chapel United Methodist Church, officiating. Interment followed in the Parks Chapel Cemetery in the District 15 Community. Arrangements were provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Homes & Cremation Center - Main Chapel of Somerville.

Mrs. Parks was born February 25, 1924 in Somerville. She received her education in the Fayette County Public School System and was married February 6, 1942 to Curtis Warren Parks. She was a lifelong resident of Fayette County and was a member of the Parks Chapel United Methodist Church where she was a member of the United Methodist Women. She was involved in farming for much of her life and was employed with the Somerville Manufacturing Company and H.I.S. Sportswear in Whiteville before her retirement. Mrs. Parks enjoyed sewing and quilting and was “famous for her fried pies.”

Mrs. Parks is survived by her daughter, Kay Pickett (Loyd) of Somerville; her son, Philip Parks (Nancy) of Flint, Michigan; two sisters, Euphrey Lee Stainback of Bartlett, Peggy Bishop of Somerville; her brother, Johnny Bishop of Somerville; seven grandchildren, Kim Lyons, Kevin Parks, Chris Gaugh, Wendy Lepard, Loyd Muncy, Lancy Muncy, Sean Pickett; eighteen great grandchildren, Jessica Lyons, Ben Lyons, Jacob Lyons, Scott Lyons, Megan Parks, Katie Parks, Nick Parks, Brandi Lakey, Will Gaugh, Machaella Gaugh, Broedi Gaugh, Annabelle Gaugh, Rylie Gaugh, Isaac Gaugh, Ashley Legions, Ashley Caywood, Drake Pickett, Aiden Pickett; and three great great grandchildren, Billy, Ailis and Dani.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Curtis Warren Parks who died March 1 2001; her parents, William Homer Bishop and Lela Ressie Rogers Bishop; two sisters, Pauline Stainback, Lela Mae Parks; three brothers, Edgar “Son” Bishop, Billy Bishop, Alfred Bishop; and her grandson, Gregory Gaugh.

Those honored to serve as pallbearers were Jacob Lyons, Scott Lyons, Loyd Muncy, Chris Gaugh, Jared Lepard and Will Gaugh.
