RUBYE LEE MILES THOMPSON

July 7, 1926 — February 14, 2010

RUBYE LEE MILES THOMPSON, a resident of the Somerville Community, longtime Fayette Countian and wife of the late Roy Clinton Thompson died Sunday afternoon, February 14, 2010 at the National HealthCare Center in Somerville where she had resided for seven years. She was 83 years of age and died following an extended illness.

Funeral services for Mrs. Thompson were conducted at 2 P.M. Wednesday, February 17th at the Peebles West Funeral Chapel at Oakland with Rev. David Reeves, Pastor of the Mid-way Baptist Church at Whiteville, officiating. Special Remarks and Reflections were given by Mr. Warren Adams, Administrator at the National HealthCare Center. Interment followed in the Hood Cemetery of the Warren Community near Somerville. Arrangements were provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Homes-West Chapel of Oakland.

Mrs. Thompson was born July 7, 1926 in the Rienzi Community of Alcorn County, Mississippi. She was preceded in death by her parents, Claudie Lee Miles and Vera Lois Huddleston Miles.

She moved at an early age with her family to Fayette County and received her education in the Fayette County Public School System.

Mrs. Thompson was married March 11, 1944 to Roy Clinton Thompson of Fayette County, longtime Farm Manager for Shelton Farms in the Longtown Community before his death on October 27, 2001.

In earlier years Mrs. Thompson was employed as a Seamstress at the former Somerville Mills Manufacturing Company.

She was a member of the Feathers Chapel Baptist Church and will be remembered as a devoted homemaker and caregiver for family members and friends. She held a special closeness to her grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

Known for her kindness and soft, gentle mannerisms, Mrs. Thompson delighted in preparing food for her family and friends and her children looked forward to the "Sunday ritual" of home-cooked meals at their parents residence.

Survivors of Mrs. Thompson include two daughters, Mary E. Giglio (Leon) of Holly Springs, MS and Barbara Mitchell (Wayne) of Oakland; a son, David Carl Thompson (Alice) of Somerville; two sisters, Helen L. Thompson and Betty Hardin, both of Somerville; two brothers, Bobby Miles and Jimmy Miles, both of Somerville; eleven grandchildren, eighteen great-grandchildren and two great-great-granchildren.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by two sons, Larry Clinton Thompson and Roy Lee Thompson.

Those honored to serve as casket bearers were Greg Hart, Brian Phillips, Wayne Phillips, Chris Thompson, Eugene Thompson and Chris Whittemore.
