RUSSELL EUGENE YOUNG

RUSSELL EUGENE YOUNG, a resident of the Somerville Community, Retired Memphis Police Officer and beloved husband of Naomi Young and treasured father of Lisa and Brett went home to Glory Friday morning, November 13, 2009 at the Methodist Le Bonheur Germantown Hospital where he had been a patient for twenty-five days. He was 63 years of age and died following a brief illness.

Services of Remembrance for Mr. Young were conducted at 2 P.M. Saturday, November 21st at the Victory Life Assembly of God Church in Somerville. The officiating Ministers were Rev. Paul Wright, Pastor of the church and Mr. Young's brother-in-law, Rev. Larry Kirk of Jackson, Tennessee. Interment was private and arrangements were provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Homes-Main Chapel of Somerville.

Mr. Young was born November 1, 1946 in Memphis. He was preceded in death by his parents, James Ellis Young and Joyce Clark Young.

He was educated in the Memphis Public School System and was a graduate of Kingsbury High School.

He was married December 27, 1966 to the former Naomi Kirk of Memphis, who survives.

Mr. Young was employed by the Memphis Police Department for thirty-three years before his retirement ten years ago. He served as a "Crime Scene" Officer and a  "Driving Under the Influence" Officer and was known to his fellow officers by his handle, "Whiskey 19".

Mr. Young was an active member of the Victory Life Assembly of God Church and had been a resident of the Somerville Community for the past nine years.

He will be remembered as an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting and fishing and was known by family and fellow hunters as the "Buck Master". He often commented that every tree he climbed and every field he walked reminded him of God's creation and the love for all of God's creatures.

He treasured his family and loved time with his precious grandchildren.

In addition to his wife of forty-two years, survivors of Mr. Young include his daughter, Lisa Jones (Robert) of Bartlett; his son, Brett Young (Mistie) of Somerville; his brother, James Young (Pat) of Big Sandy, TN and three grandchildren: Joshua Jones, Gage Young and Trinity Young.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Katherine Young.
