Ruth Mae Dennie

December 1, 1930 — February 21, 2014

Ruth Mae Martin Dennie, resident of the Whiteville Community and wife of the late James Hulon Dennie, departed this life Friday afternoon, February 21, 2014 at the Bolivar General Hospital. She was 83 years of age and died following an extended illness.

Services of Remembrance for Mrs. Dennie were conducted at 2 P.M. Wednesday, February 26th at the Peebles Main Funeral Chapel in Somerville with Rev. Bill Sorrell, pastor of the Whiteville First Baptist Church, officiating. Interment followed in the Oakland Town Cemetery. Arrangements were provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Homes and Cremation Center — Main Chapel of Somerville.

Mrs. Dennie was born December 1, 1930 in Marvell, Arkansas. She was preceded in death by her parents, Jesse Martin and Virgie Holcomb Martin. She was married April 21, 1951 to James Hulon Dennie, a naval exchange vending manager before his retirement, who died June 18, 1998. Mrs. Dennie was employed in earlier years by the General Electric Company in Memphis and also by the Bemis Bag Company.

She was a devoted member of the Whiteville First Baptist Church and participated in numerous church activities as long as health permitted. She had been a resident of the Whiteville Community for the past 20 years and will be remembered as a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She had a special love for her family and community and took much pride in caring for her yard and home as long as health permitted. Her kind mannerisms endeared her to many.

Mrs. Dennie is survived by her daughter, Patricia Gail Carter of Whiteville; her granddaughter, Jennifer Burch and husband, Dr. William Burch of Oakland; and her great granddaughter, Rebecca Lessel of Oakland. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by brothers and sisters.

Casketbearers were family members and friends and the family requests that memorials be directed to the Whiteville First Baptist Church, 203 E. Main Street, Whiteville, TN 38075 or to the Oakland Town Cemetery Association, 3225 Tomlin Road, Somerville, TN 38068.
