Ruth Doyle Douglass Alexander, resident of the Warren Community and native of Fayette County died Friday evening, May 20, 2011 at the Pine Meadows HealthCare Center in Bolivar where she had been a resident for four years. She was 93 years of age and died following an extended illness.

Services of Remembrance for Mrs. Alexander were conducted 2 P.M. Monday, May 23 rd at the Peebles Main Funeral Chapel in Somerville with Rev. Tony Watkins of Moscow officiating. Interment followed in the Hood Cemetery in the Warren Community. Arrangements were provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Homes—Main Chapel of Somerville.

A native of Fayette County, Mrs. Alexander was born May 27, 1917, the daughter of the late Viola German Doyle and the late Benjamin Doyle. Mrs. Alexander was educated in the Fayette County Public School System and was married in 1935 to Vernon Edwin Douglass who preceded her in death in 1972. In 1976, she married William Allen Alexander and he preceded her in death in 1998.

Mrs. Alexander was a homemaker and worked in earlier years at the Somerville Manufacturing Company, Ben Franklin’s Store and Douglass’ Department Store in Somerville. She was a member of the Antioch United Methodist Church. Mrs. Alexander will be remembered for her work ethic, her devotion to her family and her great Southern cooking. She enjoyed flower and vegetable gardening.

Mrs. Alexander is survived by her daughters: Myrna Minor (J. T.) of Moscow, Joyce Wilburn (Joe) of Somerville; a son: Herron Douglass of the Warren Community; her sisters: Dorothy Wood of Suffolk, Virginia, Jewel Wood of Medaryville, Indiana; her brothers: Ernest Doyle of Millington, Wesley Doyle of Millington; 9 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren and 8 great-great-grandchildren. Mrs. Alexander was also preceded in death by her son: Charles Richard Douglass; her sisters: Vernice Cook, Cornelia Lobdell and a brother: Buck Doyle.

Those honored to serve as casketbearers were her grandsons: Jay and Dwight Minor, Richie and Dennis Wilburn, Jake Douglass and great grandson Dustin Wilburn.

The family requests that memorials be directed to the church, charity or organization of the donor’s choice.
