RUTH BUFFALOE HENRY, longtime resident of the Somerville Community and wife of the late William F. "Bill" Henry, died at 8:30 P.M. Sunday, November 25, 2007 at the Jackson-Madison County Hospital Jackson, TN where she had been a patient for 2 days. She was 85 years of age and died following an extended illness of several years.
Funeral services for Mrs. Henry were conducted at 2 P.M. Thursday, November 29th at the Peebles Main Funeral Chapel in Somerville with Rev. Granville Watson, Interim Minister of the Somerville First Baptist Church officiating. Special remarks were given by Mrs. Henry's granddaughters, Faith Lester and Tammy Askew. Interment followed in the Somerville City Cemetery. Arrangements were provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Home-Main Chapel.
Mrs. Henry was born May 1, 1922 in Greenville, SC, the daughter of the late Clyde Buffaloe, Sr. and Annie Lee Hill Buffaloe. She moved at an early age with her family to Fayette County and was educated in the area public schools. She was a homemaker throughout her life and also served as a childcare provider at her home and at her church in earlier years. She had resided in the Moscow and Somerville Communities for many years.
She was a longtime member of the Somerville First Baptist Church. She will be remembered for her love of all animals, flower gardening and preparing food for her family during the holidays.
She was the wife of the late William F. "Bill" Henry and was also preceded in death by the father of her children and former spouse, Raymond Brown Carpenter of Moscow.
Survivors of Mrs. Henry include two daughters, Annie Ruth Lax of Jackson, TN and Connie Carpenter Boudreaux of Youngsville, LA; her son, Clyde Brown Carpenter of Somerville; four sisters, Beatrice Massey, Mary Hillman and Betty Ann Chambers, all of Somerville and Jeanette Hampton of Memphis; her brother, Clyde Buffaloe, Jr. of Somerville; six grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by two sisters, Frances Houston and Billie Akin.
Those honored to serve as casketbearers were John Denniston, Brock Yarbro, Adam Yarbro, Ladd Caldwell, Steve Lax and Jeff Nance.
The family request that Memorials be directed to either the Alzheimer's Foundation or to the Fayette County Humane Society.
