Ruth Smith Lunsford, age 86, resident of the Somerville Community and wife of the late Gene Lunsford, departed this life Monday evening, September 7, 2015 at the St. Francis Hospital in Bartlett.
Mrs. Lunsford was born September 28, 1928 in Brandon Manitoba, Canada. She was preceded in death by her parents, Ralph Charles Smith and Betsy Cole Smith. She received her education at the University of Winnipeg in Canada and was married September 3, 1951 to Gene Martin Lunsford who preceded her in death on June 23, 2013. She taught school for two years in Canada and was also a substitute teacher before her retirement. Mr. and Mrs. Lunsford were residents of the Somerville Community for a number of years and she was an avid Bridge player who enjoyed vegetable gardening and crocheting. Mrs. Lunsford was known to assist her husband in his dog training business for much of her life. She was a member of the Somerville First United Methodist Church.
Mrs. Lunsford is survived by her daughter-in-law, Shari Lunsford of Ohio, her sister-in-law, Evelyn Smith of Canada and a number of nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her son, Bill Lunsford and two brothers, Robert Smith and Noel Smith.
