RUTH SEYMOUR MARTIN

RUTH SEYMOUR MARTIN, resident of Priceville, Alabama, former resident of the Somerville Community and wife of the late Thad Seymour died Thursday, June 4, 2009 at Decatur General Hospital in Decatur, Alabama. She was 90 years of age.

Funeral services for Mrs. Martin were conducted at 4 P.M. Monday, June 8th at the Graveside with Rev. Larry Kendrick, Pastor of the Somerville First United Methodist Church, officiating. Interment followed in the Somerville City Cemetery. Local arrangements were provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Homes-Main Chapel of Somerville.

A native of Lovelady, TX, Mrs. Martin was born December 24, 1918. One of seven brothers and sisters, she was preceded in death by her parents, Walter Henderson Poe and Janie Nora Dixson Poe.

She was first married to Thad Lyle Seymour of Fayette County, who preceded her in death and later to Elmer Martin who also preceded her in death.

She was a former resident of Memphis and later resided in Somerville until the death of Mr. Seymour.

She was a homemaker throughout her life and was active in community, religious and charitable organizations until her illness.

Mrs. Martin was a lifelong Methodist and participated in numerous activities of the Somerville First United Methodist Church while living in Somerville.

She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Hartselle, Alabama at the time of her death.

Survivors of Mrs. Martin include two sons, Eugene T. Seymour of Bristol, Virginia and Randall P. Seymour of DeFuniak Springs, Florida; two brothers, Paul Poe of Livingston, TX and W. H. Poe, Jr. of Pennington, TX; four grandchildren and four great-granchildren.

Pallbearers were family members and friends.
