R. V. SHUBERT

November 13, 1927 — March 29, 2009

R. V. SHUBERT, a resident of Granite City, Illinois, retired Truck Operator and native Fayette Countian passed from this life on Sunday, March 29, 2009 at Gateway Regional Medical Center in Granite City. He was 81 years of age and died following an extended illness.

Funeral services for Mr. Shubert were conducted at 10 A.M. Thursday, April 2nd at Peebles Main Funeral Chapel in Somerville with Rev. Jim Perry of Moscow, officiating. Interment followed in the Shady Grove Cemetery near Williston. Arrangements were provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Homes-Main Chapel of Somerville.

A native Tennessean, Mr. Shubert was born November 13, 1927 to Claude and Dolly White Anthony, both deceased.

He was married on August 4, 1944 to the former Mary Louise Hogan Shubert, a native of Fayette County who preceded him in death on November 18, 2001. Mr. and Mrs. Shubert and their family moved to Illinois a number of years ago and Mr. Shubert was employed by the Milan Trucking Company and the Granite City Sanitation Department before his retirement.

He was of the Pentecostal faith and will be remembered as a devoted husband, father and grandfather. He was a family-oriented person who enjoyed music and visiting with his extended family, friends and neighbors.

Although relocation was necessary due to his employment, Mr. Shubert always considered Fayette County to be his true home. He appreciated the simple things in life and his strong work ethic was an example of honesty, integrity and generosity.

Survivors of Mr. Shubert include two sons, R. G. (Gordon) and Rosa Shubert of Mitchell, IL and Richard E. and Barbara Shubert of Pontoon Beach, IL; five sisters: Linnie Waddell of Mason; Lena Mae Sweeton of Somerville; Ellen Morris of Cookeville, TN; Virginia Smith of Kaufman, TX and Marie McGary of Terrell, TX; three brothers: Fred Anthony of Burlison, TN; James Anthony of Mason and Danny Pattat of Crandall, TX; six grandchildren: David Shubert, Tina Cherer, Richard Shubert, Jr., Andrea Warmack, Corey Shubert and Travis Shubert and ten great-grandchildren: Allison, Emalee, Luke, Bethany, Danny, Aaliyah, Kailee, Triston, Timani and Sydni.

Family members and friends were honored to serve as casket bearers for Mr. Shubert.
