Sally McClure Miller, known to many as "Mammy", age 86, resident of Moscow and wife of the late J.D. "Red" Miller, Sr., departed this life Friday evening, January 13, 2017 at her residence.
Services of Remembrance for Mrs. Miller were conducted at 11 A.M. Tuesday, January 17, 2017 at the Oak Grove Baptist Church in Moscow with Bro. David Parlow, pastor of the church, officiating. Interment followed in the Oak Grove Cemetery. Arrangements were provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Homes & Cremation Center - Main Chapel of Somerville.
Mrs. Miller was born November 19, 1930 in Moscow, Tennessee. She received her education in the Fayette County School System and was married July 24, 1946 to J.D. “Red” Miller, Sr. She was a member of the Oak Grove Baptist Church and the DAV (Disabled American Veterans) Auxiliary. Mrs. Miller served as the cook at Young Life Camp in Moscow and Kensington Baptist Church in Memphis before her retirement. She enjoyed preparing food and mentoring young women to learn to cook, traveling, gardening, sewing and special times with her family. Mrs. Miller received much pleasure in spoiling her children and grandchildren.
Mrs. Miller is survived by two daughters, Virginia Owens (Roy) of Moscow, TN, June Supe (Jerry) of Moscow, TN; two sons, Bobby Miller (Hazel) of Ashland, MS, J.D. “Bubba” Miller, Jr. (Tammy) of Collierville, TN; three sisters, Katie Byrd of Moscow, TN, Dolly Rhea of Moscow, TN, Lanell Rhea (Danny) of Moscow, TN; two brothers, James McClure (Kaye) of Moscow, TN, Joe McClure (Eva) of Moscow, TN; two sisters-in-law, Linda McClure of Olive Branch, MS, Brenda McClure of Somerville, TN; nine grandchildren, Ranae Knapp, Adriene Smitherman, Liz O’Donnell, David Miller, Jeni Reisinger, Joseph Miller, Shan Miller, Rocky Miller, Eric Miller; eighteen great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren and her canine companion, “Lucky”.
She was preceded in death by her husband, J.D. “Red” Miller, Sr. who died October 19, 2008; her parents, John McClure and Laura Mae Rigsby McClure; and two brothers, Carl McClure and Danny McClure.
Those honored to serve as pallbearers were Frank Canady, John M. Crisp, Randy Bing, Doug McClure, J.R. Knapp, Dylan Owens, Mark McClure and Greg Bryan. Honorary pallbearers were Roy Owens, Jerry Supe, David Miller, Mason Miller, Jacob Miller, Adam Reisinger, Cade Reisinger, Joseph Miller, Jaxson Miller, Gilbert Knapp, Larry O’Donnell, Blaine O’Donnell, Quinlan O’Donnell, Shan Miller, Dustin Miller, Rocky Miller, Luke Miller, Eric Miller, E.J. Miller, James McClure, Joe McClure, Danny Rhea, Robert Hall, John P. Crisp, David Morrison and Bobby Crisp.
