Salvador S. Gervasi, age 92, resident of Eads and husband of Dorothy Rose Gervasi, passed away peacefully at his home on October 19, 2017.
Services of Remembrance for Mr. Gervasi were held at St. Philip the Apostle Catholic Church in Somerville, Tennessee with Father Robert Favazza and Father Stephen Kenny officiating. Deacon Bill Davis and Deacon Mike Blome’ assisted with the service. Mass of Christian Burial was held on Monday, October 23, 2017 at 1 P.M. at St. Philip the Apostle Catholic Church. Interment with Military Honors followed in the Fayette County Memorial Park Cemetery at Oakland.
Mr. Gervasi was born June 26, 1925 in New Orleans, Louisiana, son of the late Sam and Mary Fiduccia Gervasi of Brookhaven, Mississippi and was preceded in death by a grandson. Mr. Gervasi was raised in Brookhaven, Mississippi and was known to many as Jr. Red. He served on the USS Pennsylvania during WWII until 1945. After the war he was stationed at Moffett Field Naval Base as was the officer in charge of the Naval Barracks. He was honorably discharged on February 18, 1946. After he discharged from the Navy, Mr. Gervasi worked for Standard Oil Company, co-owner Regal Furniture Company, St. Vincent de Paul Store and The Poor Clare Monastery. Mr. Gervasi was a former member of O.L.S. Catholic Church, St. Vincent de Paul Society and active member of St. Philip the Apostle Catholic Church.
Mr. Gervasi married his sweetheart, whom he met at a friend’s wedding, Dorothy Rose Correro on June 5, 1947. He enjoyed bowling, fishing and hunting. He will be remembered for being a loving husband, father and grandfather.
In addition to his wife, Dorothy Rose Correro Gervasi, Mr. Gervasi, is survived by his son, Gerard Gervasi (Lisa) of Collierville, TN; his daughter, Maria Jackson (Howard) of Collierville, TN; five grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and a number of nephews, nieces and cousins.
Those honored to serve as pallbearers were Gerard Gervasi, Joseph Gervasi, Blaise Correro, Jake Bellipanni, Jeremy Jackson and Drew Jackson. The honorary pallbearers were Frank Hannigan, Jim Spain, Brian Ragghianti, John Tracey, Mike Cich and Phil Lemoine.
