SAMMY DALE WRIGHT, a resident of the Brighton Community in Tipton County and a native Fayette Countian died at 8 a.m. Tuesday morning, January 13, 2009 at his Brighton residence. He was 60 years of age and died following an extended illness.

Funeral services for Mr. Wright were conducted at 1 P.M. Thursday, January 15th at the Peebles West Funeral Chapel in Oakland with Rev. Don Newton, United Methodist Minister of Potts Camp, Mississippi, officiating. Interment with Military Recognition followed in the Eads Cemetery at Eads, Tennessee. Arrangements were provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Homes-West Chapel of Oakland.

Mr. Wright was born April 17, 1948 in Somerville, the son of the late George Wright and the late Carrie Cates Wright. He received his education in the Fayette and Shelby County Public School Systems and as a young person proudly served in the United States Army receiving his Honorable Discharge in 1974.

Mr. Wright was married April 7, 1972 to the former Brenda Waldrop of Horn Lake, Mississippi, who survives.

Mr. Wright served as a longtime Construction Foreman for the Federal Correctional Institution in Memphis before his retirement in 2003 and had been a resident of the Brighton Community for the past year. He was of the Baptist faith and had been a resident of the Memphis area for a number of years.

He enjoyed baseball in earlier years and was an avid fisherman throughout his life. His other interests included riding his dirt bike and hunting.  He was a family oriented person who enjoyed a special relationship with his only grandchild.
In addition to his wife, Mr. Wright is survived by his son, Paul Wright (Brandee) of Brighton; his grandson, Peyton Andrew Wright of Brighton; four sisters: Peggy Lee and Joy Trimm, both of Somerville; Margie Borne of Glen St. Mary, FL and Sharon Trotter of Brighton; two brothers, Johnny Wright of Pleasant Plains, AR and Randy Wright of Walls, MS.

He was preceded in death by one sister, Katherine Glover and two brothers, Junior Wright and Lester Wright.

Those honored to serve as casket bearers were Doyle Bane, Greg Hall, Barry Hildreth, Steve Rowland, David Trimm and Frankie Waldrop.
