Whiteville, Tennessee

Samuel Levi Swarey, age 55, resident of Whiteville, Tennessee and husband of Ruth Ann Kauffman Swarey, died Tuesday morning, February 26, 2019 at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Memphis.

Funeral Services for Mr. Swarey were held at 10 A.M. Friday, March 1, 2019 at the Whiteville Mennonite Church. The speakers will be Kevin Yoder (MS), Andy Byler and Luke Troyer. Interment followed in the Whiteville Mennonite Church Cemetery with Kevin Yoder (TN) officiating. Arrangements were provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Homes & Cremation Center – Main Chapel in Somerville.

Samuel was born March 2, 1963 in Elkton, Kentucky, the son of Malinda Yvonne Yoder Swarey and the late Samuel Moses Swarey. He received his education in Guthrie, Kentucky and was married April 14, 1983 to the former Ruth Ann Kauffman. Samuel was very dedicated to his Saviour, Jesus Christ, and his life was a living testimony. He was also very dedicated to his wife and children and he loved reading his Bible and spending time with his grandchildren. He was a farmer and sawmill operator for many years and also operated Swarey’s Excavating for 13 years. He was a resident of the Whiteville area since 1998 and a member of Gospel Haven Mennonite Church in Whiteville.

Mr. Swarey is survived by his wife of 35 years, Ruth Ann Kauffman Swarey of Whiteville, TN; his children, Janet Fern Swarey of Whiteville, TN, Samuel Eugene Swarey (Dana), Jonathan Leon Swarey all of Whiteville, TN, Steven Ray Swarey (Mariah) of Lincoln, MO; his mother, Malinda Swarey of Guthrie, KY; two grandchildren, Abigail Ruth Swarey, Marcus Andrew Swarey; his siblings, Rebecca Lambright (Devon) of Crofton, KY, Daniel Swarey (Loretta) of Ava, IL, Ernest Swarey (Marlene) of Guthrie, KY, Reuben Swarey (Frieda) of Henry, TN, Sarah Yoder (Allen) of Cynthiana, KY, Robert Swarey (Mabel) of Guthrie, KY, Julian Swarey (Kathryn) of Olney, IL, Rachel Miller (Ben) of Fredericksburg, OH; and his brother-in-law, Marvin Byler.

In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by his sister, Barbara Byler.

Those honored to serve as pallbearers were Marvin Byler, Nathan Byler, Jon Byler, Elmer Swarey, Simon Swarey and Noah Swarey.
