andol Battle Douglas Patteson, age 80, resident of Knoxville, former resident of Arlington and wife of James Sloane Patteson III died Friday morning, May 4, 2012.
Services at the Graveside for Mrs. Patteson will be at 2 Saturday afternoon, May 19th at the Arlington Cemetery. Arrangements will be provided by the Peebles Fayette County Funeral Homes & Cremation Center - Main Chapel of Somerville.
Mrs. Patteson was born January 6, 1932 in Arlington. She was preceded in death by her parents, John Pittman Douglas and Bell Cuningham Douglas. She graduated from Nicholas Blackwell High School in Bartlett, where she was elected both the Band and Football Queens and a member of the Sigma Kappa Sigma Sorority.
She attended Southwestern College in Memphis and received her teacher’s certificate from the University of Memphis where she was a member of the Phi Mu Sorority. She was also a member of Les Passee and the Girls Cotillion, serving as their Lady in Waiting in the Memphis Cotton Carnival Court. She was a flight attendant for Delta Airlines and a third grade math teacher at St. George’s Day School in Germantown.
Mrs. Patteson was a member of Sequoyah Hills Presbyterian Church in Knoxville and a participant in several Bible Studies as well as Bible Study Fellowship. She was a loving sister, wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, as well as a caring friend to all who knew her.
Mrs. Patteson is survived by her husband of 55 years, James Sloane Patteson, III; four devoted children, daughter, Douglas Patteson Kirkpatrick of Nashville, TN; sons, John Starke Patteson and wife Maureen of Knoxville, William Bruce Patteson and wife Katherine of Memphis, James Sloane Patteson, IV of Knoxville; two brothers, John Pittman Douglas and wife Edna Earl, William Cuningham Douglas and wife Peggy of Memphis; grandchildren, Allie Louise Kirkpatrick of Nashville, Philip Mason Kirkpatrick of Nashville, William Lucas Kirkpatrick of Cookeville, John Starke Patteson, Jr. and wife Sarah of Cookeville, Brandon James Patteson of Knoxville, William Bruce Patteson, Jr. and Taylor Goodloe Patteson of Memphis; great-granddaughter, Kinzlee Ann Patteson of Cookeville; step-grandsons, Jackson Gregory Wilson and Andrew James Wilson of Knoxville; and several nieces, nephews and cousins whom she cared for deeply.
The family requests that memorials be directed to Sequoyah Hills Presbyterian Church, 3700 Keowee Ave., Knoxville, TN 37919 or the church, charity or organization of the donor's choice.
