Sandra Kay McQueen Maness, resident of Ashland, Mississippi, native of the Somerville Community and wife of the late Bobby Neal Maness, Sr., departed this life Sunday morning, July 6, 2014 at the Baptist Memorial Hospital in Memphis where she had been a patient for four days. She was 60 years of age and died following an extended illness.
Services of Remembrance for Mrs. Maness were conducted at 2 P.M. Thursday, July 10th at the Peebles Main Funeral Chapel in Somerville with Bro. Rodney Stewart, pastor of the Union Hill Methodist Church in Ashland, Mississippi, officiating. Personal remarks were given by a family friend, Tommy Lanzarotto. Interment followed in the Evergreen Cemetery at Williston. Arrangements were provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Homes & Cremation Center – Main Chapel of Somerville.
Mrs. Maness was born August 10, 1953 in the Williston Community. She was preceded in death by her parents, Franklin McQueen, Sr. and Marie Earnest McQueen. She received her education in the Fayette County Public School System and was married April 15, 1972 to Bobby Neal Maness, Sr., who preceded her in death on March 7, 2008.
Mrs. Maness moved to Ashland, Mississippi in 1973 and was employed at Sandra’s Grocery in Ashland for much of her life before her retirement in 2004. In February, 2014, Mrs. Maness moved to her family home in Williston, to reside with her sister. She was a member of the Canaan Baptist Church in Ashland and enjoyed special times with her grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Canning vegetables, watching television and shopping were favorite pastimes.
Mrs. Maness is survived by her daughter, Tonya Maness Simmons (Tim) of Memphis; three sons, Bobby Neal Maness, Jr. (Stephanie) of Byhalia, MS, Jeff Maness (Nancy Wilbanks) of Ashland, MS, Joey Maness of Ashland, MS; her sister, Pam Cannon of Williston; her brother, Frank McQueen, Jr. of Holly Springs, MS; and six grandchildren, Bobby Neal Maness, III, Presley Maness, Stephen Maness, Tianna Simmons, Cayden Simmons and Tayler Simmons.
Those honored to serve as casketbearers were Billy Allen, Thomas Poff, Junior Trailer, Kevin McQueen, Kenny McQueen and Keith Cannon.
Honorary casketbearers were Donald McNabb and Tim Simmons.
