Sang-kyu Kim, age 88, resident of Somerville, Tennessee, passed away peacefully in his sleep on Tuesday afternoon, January 4, 2022 at his home.
Sang-kyu was born September 20, 1933 in South Korea. During the Korean War, he served as a medic and assisted the U.S. Military as a translator. He moved to the United States to attend college and earned a bachelor’s degree from Ouachita Baptist University in Arkadelphia, Arkansas. He was of the Christian faith and prayer was always an important part of his day. Mr. Kim had a successful career with Holiday Inn, opening many locations throughout the country including one in Georgia that he managed for many years. He enjoyed painting and deep-sea fishing and will be remembered for being a funny man with a contagious smile who never met a stranger.
Mr. Kim is survived by three daughters, Lori Kim Prokop (Dan) of Calhoun, GA, Tanya Kim (Teddy) of Somerville, TN and Sonya Kim Vaughn (Drew) of Fairview, TN and six grandchildren, Aubrey Lipford, Presley Pass, Waylon Pass, Dax Prokop, Saydi Prokop and Danny Prokop. He was preceded in death by his son, Jordan Tyler Kim.
A private graveside service was held at the Fayette County Memorial Park Cemetery on Highway 64.
