Sara Garner Gray

September 14, 1922 — June 19, 2010

SARA GARNER GRAY, 87, Somerville resident and wife of the late William G. Gray, Sr. peacefully passed away June 19, 2010. Family and friends gathered from 6 to 8 PM Wednesday, June 23rd at the Peebles Main Funeral Chapel in Somerville to celebrate Mrs. Gray's life. Services and interment will be at a later date.

Mrs. Gray was born on September 14, 1922 and lived a good long life of 87 years. Her life was as any life, a journey between light and shadow, but uniquely Sara Gray poured into this concoction of living a wonderful curiosity for life. She had a deep love for all living things, a rich connection with God, a love of travel, adventure and learning about the world. She had long and loving relationships with her family and her friends. She was a powerful survivor of breast cancer and for this and many other reasons was respected and sought after for her wisdom. She taught her children to remember as she did kindness and compassion for all living things. She loved her husband, Bill Gray, and was a good wife and fine mother. She was a loving daughter, sister and sister-in-law. She was a loyal friend and over her many years opened her home and heart graciously to the world. She loved to laugh and she loved to tell stories; she was the wisdom keeper of her family and helped us remember our ancestors and their stories. We will in kind do the same for her and share her many stories with those who come after us. Sara Gray was a marvelous, beloved woman who lovingly touched thousands of lives. She will be greatly missed and lovingly remembered.

Mrs. Gray is survived by her son, Bill Gray (Wanda) of Somerville, two daughters: Betty Gray of Chaco National Park, New Mexico, Christy Gray of Athens, Georgia, two sisters: Dot McGhee (Ray) of Somerville and Betty Twing of Buffalo, Wyoming and 8 grandchildren. Mrs. Gray was preceded in death by her brother Samuel Garner.

The family request that memorials be directed to the American Cancer Society.
