Sarabeth (Kee) Taylor

October 4, 1937 — September 9, 2016

Sarabeth Kee Taylor, age 78, resident of Somerville and wife of Charles E. Taylor, departed this life Friday evening, September 9, 2016 at the St. Francis Hospital in Bartlett.

Services of Remembrance for Mrs. Taylor were conducted at 2 P.M. Tuesday, September 13, 2016 at the Peebles Main Funeral Chapel in Somerville with Rev. Stan McDaniel, pastor of the Somerville First United Methodist Church, officiating. Interment followed in the Somerville City Cemetery. Arrangements were provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Homes & Cremation Center – Main Chapel of Somerville.

Mrs. Taylor was born October 4, 1937 in Somerville, Tennessee, the daughter of the late Erwin Morris Kee, Sr. and the late Dorris Amelia Oates Kee of Somerville. She attended Fayette County Public Schools and graduated from Fayette County High School as an honor student. She married Charles E. Taylor on July 10, 1955 at the home of her parents.

She began working at The Fayette Falcon newspaper part time when she was in the 11th grade, where Charles was also working. Her father started working there when he was 13 and was also working part time at the newspaper. Mrs. Taylor attended Somerville First United Methodist Church since she was born and was a member. Mr. and Mrs. Taylor served as MYF counselors and when the Wesleyan Service Guild Number 2 was formed, she served as president and in other offices and on numerous committees.

Upon returning to Somerville after nearly two years at Fort Bragg in Fayetteville, North Carolina, where Charles was serving in the United States Army, she was employed by the Fayette County School Board. She worked for a number of years at Fayette County High School as the secretary to the principal and as the school bookkeeper. She also worked for a few years in the Board of Education office. In 1959, Charles became a partner in The Fayette Falcon and she was still working nights and weekends at the newspaper. In the intervening years, Charles became editor and publisher and she took on more duties at the newspaper.

In 1975, Mrs. Taylor went to work full time at The Fayette Falcon and remained there until they sold the paper in 1991. At this time, they continued in business as Taylor Printing & Office Supplies until 1998 when they closed the business and both retired. While working at the newspaper, she was part owner with Charles, office manager, society editor and bookkeeper.

Mrs. Taylor always enjoyed nature and the wildlife that they fed and watched from their home. She had a great love for the three dog companions they had, Molly Susie and Precious. She enjoyed reading, working jigsaw puzzles and more than anything, sharing every moment of her married life with her husband. They worked together, live together and played together all the years of their marriage.

Mrs. Taylor also enjoyed special times with her late brother, Erwin Kee and his wife, Daphane, of Somerville; Charles’ sister, Sandra Shelton of Oakland; four nephews, Greg Kee (Millie) of Paris, Texas; Jeff Pounders of Oakland, Andy Kee (Jennifer) of Somerville, Jeremy Kee (Andrea) of Somerville; and their great nieces and nephews.

Those honored to serve as pallbearers were Greg Kee, Andy Kee, Jeremy Kee, Jeff Pounders, Bryant Tapp and Tom Whitaker.

The family requests that memorials be directed to the Somerville First United Methodist Church, 202 S. East Street, Somerville, TN 38068 or to the charity of the donor’s choice.
