Sarah Woods Stafford

January 21, 1926 — April 15, 2008

SARAH WOODS STAFFORD, resident of the Mt. Pleasant Community in Marshall County, MS, former resident of the Williston Community and wife of the late James Robert Stafford of Fayette County, died at 11:15 P.M. Tuesday, April 15, 2008, at the Baptist Memorial Hospital in Memphis where she had been a patient for one day. She was 82 years of age and died following an illness of three months.
Funeral services for Mrs. Stafford were conducted at 11 A.M. Friday, April 18th at the Mt. Pleasant United Methodist Church with her son-in-law, Rev. Larry "Dock" Dollar of Walnut, MS, officiating. He was assisted by Rev. Scott Broughton, pastor of the church. Interment followed in Memphis Memory Gardens on Raleigh LaGrange Road in Memphis. Arrangements were provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Home - Main Chapel of Somerville.
Mrs. Stafford was born January 21, 1926, in Lauderdale County, TN, the daughter of the late William Luttrell Woods and the late Jesse Ethel Acuff Woods. Mrs. Stafford was educated in the Lauderdale County school system and she was a graduate of the Ripley, TN High School. She was married February 21, 1948, to James Robert Stafford, retired owner of James Stafford Realty at Mt. Pleasant and decorated United States Army Veteran, who preceded her in death February 12, 1994.
Mr. and Mrs. Stafford were residents of Memphis in earlier years and resided in the Williston Community before moving to Mt. Pleasant in 1971. She was a homemaker and also served as a postal service carrier for the City of Collierville before her retirement. She was a devoted member of the Mt. Pleasant United Methodist Church where she participated in numerous church activities. Mrs. Stafford will be remembered as a spiritual person who was devoted to her family, her church and her community. She enjoyed music throughout her life with a particular love for gospel music.
Mrs. Stafford is survived by her daughter, Elaine Stafford Dollar (Rev. Larry "Dock" Dollar) of Walnut, MS; three sons, Darrell E. Stafford (Lynn) of San Antonio, TX, Danny Stafford (Linda) of Red Banks, MS and Larry W. Stafford of Mt. Pleasant; five grandchildren, Amy Dollar Bennett, Ted Dollar, Zac Stafford, Ellyn Stafford, Isaiah Stafford and three great-grandchildren.
Casketbearers were family members and friends and the family request that memorials be directed to the Mt. Pleasant United Methodist Church or the donor's favorite charity.
