Shannon (Whitley) Walk

August 4, 1946 — March 4, 2014

Shannon Whitley Walk, resident of the Oakland Community and wife of Randy Walk, departed this life Tuesday evening, March 4, 2014 at the St. Francis Hospital in Bartlett where she had been a patient for three days. She was 67 years of age and died following a brief illness.

Services of Remembrance for Mrs. Walk were conducted at 2 P.M. Friday, March 7th at the Peebles West Funeral Chapel at Oakland with Bro. David Reeves, pastor of the Midway Baptist Church in Whiteville, officiating. Personal remarks were given by Bobby Holland of Oakland. Interment will follow in the Fayette County Memorial Park Cemetery on Highway 64. Arrangements were provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Homes & Cremation Center — West Chapel at Oakland.

Mrs. Walk was born August 4, 1946 in Nashville.  She received her education in the Davidson County Public School System and continued her education to pursue a nursing career. She was a former resident of Nashville before moving to the Oakland Community where she had been a resident for over 33 years. Mrs. Walk was married December 31, 1982 to Charles Randall “Randy” Walk, retired employee of Memphis Light, Gas & Water Department, who survives.

Mrs. Walk was a homemaker for much of her life and also owned and operated the Oakland Thrift Store for a number of years before her retirement. She was a Christian and will be remembered for her love of flower gardening and frequenting estate sales to purchase items for her business. Horseback riding was a pleasure she enjoyed as a young person and she possessed a deep love for her family and grandchildren.

In addition to her husband of 31 years, Mrs. Walk is survived by two sons, Travis Wayne Walk of Oakland, Trevor Vincent Hart of Millington; her brother, Jay Scott Whitley of Crystal Springs, FL; and five grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Martha Zelda Ratterman Whitley; her sister, Ann Kay Whitley and her brother, David Whitley.

Casketbearers were family members and friends and the family requests that memorials be directed to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, P.O. Box 1000, Department 142, Memphis, TN 38148.
