Sharon (Petty) Cooper

Joyce Sharon Petty Cooper, age 81, resident of Oakland, Tennessee and wife of Art Cooper, departed this life Friday afternoon, November 24, 2023 at Methodist LeBonheur Germantown Hospital in Germantown, Tennessee.

Sharon was born November 19, 1942 in Reagan, Tennessee, the daughter of the late Ellis Ohlen Petty and Ellen Frances Johnson Petty. She graduated from Frayser High School and was married in 1959 to Sidney Arthur “Art” Cooper. She lived in Hardeman County before moving to Oakland and was the bookkeeper in the family business, Art Cooper Construction Company. Sharon was a homemaker for many years and was of the Baptist faith. She enjoyed traveling, sewing, watching movies on television, entertaining, Bible Study time and family time, especially with her grandchildren who she loved dearly.

Mrs. Cooper is survived by her husband, Sidney Arthur “Art” Cooper; her daughter, Tammy Cooper Petkoff; two grandchildren, George Anthony “Tony” Petkoff, Sr. (Christina Marie Knight Petkoff) and Kyle Cooper Petkoff; and two great-grandchildren, Roxanne Elise Knight Petkoff and George Anthony Petkoff, Jr. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her daughter, Sherry Gena Cooper and her brother, Harold Petty.

Funeral Services for Mrs. Cooper were held at 2 P.M. Friday, December 1, 2023 at the Peebles West Funeral Chapel at Oakland with Troy Neff, pastor of New Hope Church of the Nazarene in Memphis, Tennessee, officiating. Interment followed in Memphis Memory Gardens Cemetery.
