Arthur Elque “Jack” Rogers, age 78, departed this life Friday morning, December 18, 2015 and Sherlene Howell Rogers, age 67, departed this life Monday evening, December 21, 2015. Mr. and Mrs. Rogers were residents of the Somerville Community.
Services of Remembrance for Mr. Jack Rogers and Mrs. Sherlene Howell Rogers were conducted at 2 P.M. Wednesday, December 23, 2015 at the Peebles West Funeral Chapel at Oakland with Bro. Bob Williams, pastor of the Stanton Baptist Church, officiating. He was assisted by Barry Edge. Interment followed in the Mt. Olive Cemetery in the District 15 Community. Arrangements were provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Homes & Cremation Center - West Chapel at Oakland.
Mr. Rogers was born May 11, 1937 in Somerville and Mrs. Rogers was born December 3, 1948 in Tutwiler, Mississippi. He was a graduate of Fayette County High School in Somerville and served his country in the United States Navy. She received her education in the Memphis City School System. Mr. and Mrs. Rogers were together for 28 years and they attended the Stanton Baptist Church, where she was a member. He enjoyed hunting, NASCAR, watching western shows and special times with his family. She enjoyed playing Yahtzee and special times with her grandchildren.
Mr. and Mrs. Rogers are survived by three daughters, Solita Reed (Randy) of Springfield, Missouri, Teresa Gonzalez (Antonio) of Somerville, Tennessee, Lisa Miller (Patrick) of Oakland, Tennessee; four sons, Michael Rogers (Cindy) of Memphis, Tennessee, Jeff Rogers (Lynn) of Virginia Beach, Virginia, Glen Rogers (Melissa) of Somerville, Tennessee, Barry Edge (Joanie) of Raleigh, North Carolina; nineteen grandchildren and fifteen great grandchildren.
Mr. Rogers is survived by his sister, Sue Shelby of Oakland, Tennessee and three brothers, Jimmy Rogers (Joan) of Somerville, Tennessee, Jerry Rogers (Evanell) of Somerville, Tennessee, Lowell (Fay) Rogers (Bonnie Jean) of Sardis, Mississippi.
Mrs. Rogers is survived by three sisters, Lawana Kay Jarduga of Southaven, Mississippi, Betty Ducas of Southaven, Mississippi, Minnie Rose Howell of Springfield, Missouri and her brother, Lacy Howell of Memphis, Tennessee.
Mr. Rogers was preceded in death by his parents, Clifford Rogers and Ethel Stanback Rogers. Mrs. Rogers was preceded in death by her parents, James Henry Howell and Era Mae Cloninger Howell; three sisters and three brothers. They were preceded in death by two grandchildren, Jessica Wallace and Christopher Reed.
Those honored to serve as pallbearers were David Martin, James Orr, Kevin Reed, Steven Reed, Jerry Rogers, Jr., Jimmy Rogers, Jr., Richard Malone and Robert Rogers.
Honorary pallbearers were Patrick Miller, Antonio Gonzalez, Randall Reed, Christopher Rogers, Noah Edge and Richard Graham.
The family requests that memorials be directed to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, P.O. Box 1000, Department 142, Memphis, TN 38148.
