Shirley Ann (Baker) Green

December 12, 1942 — November 8, 2014

Shirley Ann Baker Green, resident of La Grange, longtime employee for Peebles Fayette County Funeral Homes and wife of the late Larry J. Green, Jr., departed this life Saturday evening, November 8, 2014 at the National HealthCare Center in Somerville. She was 71 years of age and died following a brief illness.

Services of Remembrance for Mrs. Green were conducted at 2 P.M. Wednesday, November 12th at the La Grange United Methodist Church with Rev. Dr. Virginia Jones Finzel, pastor of the church, officiating. Interment followed in the La Grange Cemetery. Arrangements were provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Homes & Cremation Center - Main Chapel of Somerville.

Mrs. Green was born December 11, 1942 in Memphis. She was preceded in death by her parents, Lebert Ruddle Baker and Mary Elizabeth Whitaker Baker. She received her education in the Shelby County Public School System and was a graduate of Central High School. She was married September 18, 1964 to Larry J. Green, Jr., a retired employee at the University of Memphis, who preceded her in death on October 7, 2008.

Mrs. Green was a resident of Fayette County for over 40 years and was a member of the La Grange United Methodist Church. She was employed as an administrative assistant for Peebles Fayette County Funeral Homes for a number of years at the time of her death. She loved taking care of her pet cat, Sugar, the outdoors and enjoyed walking and taking care of others. Watching University of Tennessee sports was a favorite pastime.

Mrs. Green is survived by two sons, Michael Green (Sandy) of Adamsville, TN, Chad Green (Katrina) of Oakland, TN; and her granddaughter, Michelle Dawn Green of Adamsville, TN.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Buddy Baker.

Those honored to serve as casketbearers were Wallace Witmer, Tommy Lynne, Jim Ballard, Buzzy Parham, Phil Griffin and Trey Cowan.

Honorary casketbearers were Paul Davenport and Bill Cowan, Jr.
