Shirley Anne "Sissy" Barkley Rogers, age 67, resident of the Oakland Community and wife of Tommy Rogers, Sr., departed this life Tuesday afternoon, June 9, 2015 at the Baptist Memorial Hospital in Memphis.
Services of Remembrance at the Graveside for Mrs. Rogers were conducted at 2 P.M. Thursday, June 11th with Bro. Drew Murphy, pastor of Fayette Baptist Church in Somerville, officiating. Interment followed in the Fayette County Memorial Park Cemetery on Highway 64. Arrangements were provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Homes & Cremation Center - West Chapel at Oakland.
Mrs. Rogers was born January 3, 1948 in Memphis, the daughter of Velma King Barkley and the late Future Barkley. She received her education in the Memphis City Public School System and was the wife of 27 years to Tommy Rogers, Sr., who survives. She was a resident of the Oakland Community for many years and a member of Fayette Baptist Church in Somerville. Mrs. Rogers was a homemaker throughout her life and enjoyed flowers, gardening and most of all, loved her family.
In addition to her husband, Mrs. Rogers is survived by two daughters, Tonya Arnold (John) of Borden, IN, Kesha Rogers of Memphis; two sons, Timmy Carter of Oklahoma, Tommy Rogers, Jr. (Melat) of Grandberry, TX; her mother, Velma Barkley of Ripley, MS; two sisters, Brenda Blaylock of Collierville, Deborah Winters of Ripley, MS; her brother, Ricky Barkley of Ripley, TN; five grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
In addition to her father, she was preceded in death by her brother, Danny Barkley.
The family requests that memorials be directed to Fayette Baptist Church, 12465 U.S. Highway 64, Somerville, TN 38068.
