Smith Warren Bowling

Smith Warren Bowling, age 93, former resident of the Somerville Community, retired from the Memphis International Airport, United States Army World War II Veteran and husband of the late Eva Tapp Bowling, departed this life Saturday, September 20, 2014 at the Tennessee State Veterans Home in Murfreesboro where he had been a resident for two years.

Services of Remembrance for Mr. Bowling were conducted at the Graveside at 2 P.M. Tuesday, September 23rd with Rev. Mike Pilcher officiating. Interment followed in the Hebron Cemetery in the Bethlehem Community. Arrangements were provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Homes & Cremation Center - Main Chapel of Somerville.

Mr. Bowling was born May 5, 1921 in Williston. He was preceded in death by his parents, Jimmie Green Bowling and Betty Patterson Bowling. He received his education in the Fayette County Public School System and served his country in the United States Army during the World War II Period. He was married November 5, 1946 to the former Eva Tapp, who preceded him in death on June 2, 1999.

Mr. Bowling was employed in field maintenance at the Memphis International Airport for 30 years before his retirement in 1987. He was a resident of the Somerville Community for much of his life before moving to the Tennessee State Veterans Home in Murfreesboro in 2012. He was a member of the Oak Grove United Methodist Church in Somerville and enjoyed hunting, gardening, reading, traveling and nature.

Mr. Bowling is survived by two daughters, Janet Bowling of Satellite Beach, FL, Angela Bowling of Dallas, TX; his son, Philip Bowling of Lakeland, TN; two sisters, Mary Redfearn of Somerville, Barbara Jean Bowling of Cordova; his brother, Eldridge "Skin" Bowling of Somerville; and three grandchildren, Maggie Bowling, Matthew Bowling and Daniel Bowling.
