Stephen Allen Burns

Stephen Allen “Steve” Burns, longtime resident of the Laconia Community and native Fayette Countian departed this life Thursday afternoon, August 1, 2013 at the Methodist Hospital in Somerville. He was 60 years of age and died unexpectedly of natural causes.

Services of Remembrance for Mr. Burns were conducted at 2 P.M. Thursday, August 8th at the Peebles Main Funeral Chapel in Somerville with Billy Langford of the Spring Hill Church of Christ in Laconia officiating. Interment was in the Spring Hill Cemetery at Laconia. Arrangements were provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Homes and Cremation Center — Main Chapel of Somerville.

Mr. Burns was born August 30, 1952 in Memphis. He was preceded in death by his parents, Joe Burns and Helen Rose Burns. He was educated in the Fayette County Public School System and was a graduate of the Fayette County High School in Somerville, class of 1970. Mr. Burns was a member of the Spring Hill Church of Christ and was employed for a number of years by the CertainTeed Corporation in Eads before retiring for health reasons.

An avid lifelong sports fan, he enjoyed football, basketball and baseball. Mr. Burns supported the area little league programs that his grandchildren participated in. He had resided for much of his life in the Somerville and Laconia Community areas and was a family-oriented person.

Mr. Burns is survived by the mother of his children, Gwen Hurst Meadows of Somerville; three sons, Christopher Burns of Somerville, Stephen A. Burns (Felisha) of Somerville, Timothy B. Burns of Somerville; his sister, Linda Webb of Piperton; two brothers, Kerry Burns of Somerville, Ronnie Burns of Somerville; and five grandchildren, Brianna, Leslie, Bryan, Chloe and Haley.
