Suzanne Lamar Anderson, resident of Oxford, Mississippi, retired school teacher, wife of William M. Anderson and sister of Betty Lamar Peebles of Somerville departed this life peacefully in the comfort of her home Tuesday morning, July 24, 2012. She was 68 years of age and died following an extended illness.
A Private Graveside Service for Mrs. Anderson was conducted on July 26th in the Oxford Memorial Park Cemetery. The officiating ministers were Dr. David Saunders and Dr. Warren Black. A visitation for family and friends was held at the Fellowship Hall of the Oxford University United Methodist Church. Arrangements were provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Homes & Cremation Center – Main Chapel of Somerville.
A native of New Albany, Mississippi, Mrs. Anderson was a graduate of the New Albany High School and of the University of Mississippi, where she was a member of the Kappa Delta Sorority and served as Secretary and Treasurer for the Lamar Family Union Development Corporation. She was an elementary teacher for many years at the Oxford University School and will be remembered as a dedicated Christian and devoted to her faith, family and friends.
She was a positive, caring, compassionate wife, mother and friend to many. She epitomized Christian beliefs through her acts of kindness and was an active participant in the ministries of the Oxford Fountain Church and the Interfaith Ministries of the Oxford University United Methodist Church.
Mrs. Anderson is survived by her husband of 31 years, William (Bill) Anderson of Oxford, MS; two sons, Dr. Robert M. (Rob) Pickering and wife, Kim of Memphis, W.M. (Andy) Anderson III and wife, Cinny of New Orleans, LA; one daughter, Sallie Kate Ray and husband, Dr. Mark Ray of Tupelo, MS; her sister, Betty Lamar Peebles and husband, Tom Peebles of Somerville; two brothers, Dr. Wayne T. Lamar and wife, Patricia Lamar of Oxford, MS, Thomas E. Lamar of Oxford, MS; and five beloved grandchildren, William Pickering, Mary Taylor Ray, Andrew Ray, Taylor Anderson and Pixie Anderson.
The family requests that memorials be directed to the Fountain Church, 1308 N. Lamar Boulevard, Oxford, Mississippi 38655 or to the Interfaith Ministries of the Oxford University United Methodist Church, 424 South 10th Street, Oxford, Mississippi 38655.
