TANYA KAY ASHFORD

June 28, 1943 — March 5, 2009

TANYA KAY ASHFORD, a resident of the Moscow Community and a lifelong member of the Morris Memorial Baptist Church died at 11:45 A.M. Thursday, March 5, 2009 at the Jackson Madison County Hospital where she had been a patient for one week. She was 65 years of age and died following a nine-month illness.

Funeral services for Ms. Ashford were conducted at 1 P.M. Saturday, March 7th at Peebles Main Funeral Chapel in Somerville with Rev. Greg Cook, Pastor of the Morris Memorial Baptist Church in Moscow, officiating. He was assisted by Rev. Lynn Eagan of Collierville, retired Pastor of the church. Interment followed in the Ebenezer Cemetery near Williston. Arrangements were provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Home-Main Chapel of Somerville.

A native of Moscow, Ms. Ashford was born June 28, 1943 to Virginia Wade Ashford, who survives, and Harold Franklin Ashford, now deceased. She was a member of a family long active in the business, community and religious affairs of the Moscow Community.

Ms. Ashford attended local schools including the Fayette County High School in Somerville. She worked for a number of years in the Memphis area in clerical positions and as a commercial artist.

A longtime, devoted member of the Morris Memorial Baptist Church in Moscow, she enjoyed singing in the church choir and growing flowers and plants.

Survivors of Ms. Ashford include her mother, Virginia Wade Ashford of Moscow; her brother, Michael W. Ashford and wife Janette Ashford of Bolivar; her niece, Tabitha Stevens and husband Barrett "Bub" Stevens of Jackson, TN; her great-niece, Shelby Stevens and her great-nephew, Thomas Stevens.

Those honored to serve as casket bearers were Richard Allen, Tom Allen, Glen Sides, Bobbitt Wade, Larry Wade and Trey Wade.

Honorary casket bearers were Lee Carpenter, Pat Downey, Rickey Jewell and Tommy Wade.
