TEDDY "TED" GERALD SLOAN, resident of Marion, AR, U.S. Marine and husband of the former Melba Irene Chambers of the Macon Community, died at 4:45 P.M. Thursday, February 7, 2008, at the Crittenden Memorial Hospital in Memphis where he had been a patient for five weeks. He was 69 years of age and died following a four year illness.
Funeral services for Mr. Sloan were conducted at 1 P.M. Monday, February 11th at the Peebles Main Funeral Chapel in Somerville with Rev. John Lloyd of Tipton County, officiating. Interment will be private. Arrangements were provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Home - Main Chapel of Somerville.
A West Virginian native, Mr. Sloan was born April 24, 1938. He was educated in the Virginia public school system and was a former resident of Andover, Ohio before moving to the Memphis and Marion Communities. He served in the United States Marines and was married December 22, 1984 to Melba Irene Chambers Sloan, who survives.
Mr. Sloan served as a machinist for the General Electric Corporation in Memphis for forty years and after his retirement was employed by the Crittenden County Sheriff's Department.
He was a Christian and had been a resident of Marion for the past twenty-four years. He will be remembered for his patriotism, his work ethic and his enjoyment of the outdoors that included fishing and hunting.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his daughter, Bambi Carey of Conneaut Lake, PA; two sons, Richard Sloan of Virginia Beach, VA, Freddie Sloan of Cincinnati, Ohio and a number of grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
The family request that memorials be directed to the Hyde Park United Methodist Church, 1613 South College Street, Covington, TN 38019.
