T. H. Rowland

October 18, 1928 — April 7, 2011

Timothy Hobert “Sonny” Rowland, Jr. resident of the Hickory Withe Community, longtime employee of Velsicol Chemical Company before his retirement and husband of Joan Rowland died Thursday evening, April 7, 2011 at his residence. He was 82 years of age and died following an illness of several months.

Services of Remembrance for Mr. Rowland were conducted at 3 P.M. Saturday, April 9th at the Peebles West Funeral Chapel at Oakland with Rev. Loyd Shelton of Rossville, officiating. Interment followed in the Fayette County Memorial Park Cemetery on Highway 64. Arrangements were provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Homes—West Chapel of Oakland.

Mr. Rowland was born October 18, 1928 in Arlington, TN, the son of the late Timothy H. Rowland, Sr. and the late Fannie Susan Seward Rowland. He received his education in the Tennessee Public School System and was married July 12, 1947 to the former Joan Mariencheck of Memphis, retired employee of the Tennessee Belting Company, who survives.
Mr. Rowland was a Christian and was a Mason. He was a former resident of Shelby County before moving to Fayette County in 1974. Mr. Rowland was employed by the Velsicol Chemical Company for 43 years before his retirement 17 years ago. He will be remembered for his love of nature and outdoor activities that included fishing, boating, traveling and motorcycles. Mr. Rowland was a devoted husband, father and grandfather who enjoyed special times with his family.

In addition to his wife of 63 years, Mr. Rowland leaves his daughter: Diane Arnold (Kenneth) of Memphis; his son: James R. Rowland of Ogden, Utah; three sisters: Edith Tipps of Memphis, Lavice Herndon of Memphis, Rebecca Crane of Hickory Withe, four grandchildren: Robert and Roger Shea, Jessica and Michael Rowland and four great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his sister Oletta Aycock.

Those honored to serve as casketbearers were Kenneth Arnold, Charles Crane, Taylor Jones, Cliff Seward, Robert Shea and Roger Shea.
