Thelma Lou Taylor Dennie, native Fayette Countian and resident of Memphis for much of her life died Monday morning, October 3, 2011 at Dove Health and Rehabilitation Center in Collierville where she had resided for one year. She was 88 years of age and died following an extended illness.
Services of Remembrance for Mrs. Dennie were conducted at 2 P.M. Wednesday, October 5th at Peebles Main Funeral Chapel in Somerville with Rev. John Ed Watkins of Morris Chapel Baptist Church in Somerville officiating. He was assisted by Rev. Wayne Craig of the Warren Community Church. Interment followed in the Hood Cemetery in the Warren Community. Arrangements were provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Homes and Cremation Center — Main Chapel of Somerville.
Mrs. Dennie was born March 19, 1923 in Somerville. She was preceded in death by her parents, Hoyette Taylor and Viola Markle Taylor. She was educated in the Fayette County Public School System and was a resident of Memphis for much of her life. Mrs. Dennie was employed in the healthcare field by the Methodist Hospital Systems in Memphis for a number of years before her retirement.
She was a Christian, in earlier years was a member of the Warren Assembly of God Church and was a member of the Macon Road Baptist Church in Memphis in later years. She will be remembered as a person devoted to her family with a special love for her grandchildren. She had a lifelong love for music and dancing and was a resident of Shelby and Fayette Counties her entire life. Mrs. Dennie was preceded in death by the father of her children, John W. Dennie and two brothers, James Taylor and J.T. Taylor.
Mrs. Dennie is survived by two sons, James W. Dennie (Judy) of Middleton, Richard L. Dennie (Cindy) of Memphis, three sisters, Virginia Holmes of Lexington, TN, Ruby Callahan of Holly Springs, MS, Joyce Atkeison of Somerville, two brothers, Ed Taylor of Memphis, Connie Taylor of Mesa, AZ, ten grandchildren, twenty great grandchildren, and a person thought of as a son, Joe Watkins (Robbie) of Middleton.
Those honored to serve as pallbearers were Ross Burgess, C.A. Feathers, Pete Williams, David Dunn, Roger Baker, David Watkins, Jason Dennie and John Dennie.
