THEODORE "TED" STOVALL, resident of Cordova, former resident of the Somerville Community and an active member of the local VFW Post and his Church, died Wednesday, January 30, 2008, at his residence. He was 84 years of age and died following an extended illness.
Funeral services for Mr. Stovall were conducted at 1 P.M. Saturday, February 2nd at St. Philip the Apostle Catholic Church in Somerville with Deacon Bill Davis, officiating. Interment, with military honors provided by the Marine Corps League of Somerville, followed in Fayette County Memorial Park Cemetery on Hwy. 64. Arrangements were provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Home- West Chapel of Oakland.
Mr. Stovall was born August 27, 1923, in Como, MS, the son of the late William N. Stovall and the late Haysie Fennell Stovall. He was educated in the Mississippi Public School System and proudly served for six years in the United States Navy during the World War II and Korean Conflict Periods. Mr. Stovall was married October 29, 1949, to the former Virginia Huelsmann, who survives.
Mr. Stovall was employed for over thirty years as a chemical plant supervisor for the Grace Chemical Co. in Memphis before his retirement twenty-five years ago. He and Mrs. Stovall retired to Fayette County where they enjoyed for twenty-six years their family farm and lake located near Hwy. 64 East of Somerville. The couple returned to Memphis two years ago because of health reasons.
A devoted member of St. Philip the Apostle Catholic Church, Mr. Stovall served in numerous capacities of the church as long as health permitted. He was a loyal supporter and participant of the Somerville Veterans of Foreign Wars Post # 5013 for many years, assuming the responsibility of coordinating military funeral honors for many Fayette County Veterans. He will be remembered for his love of his Fayette County home, gardening, nature, lake and patriotism. Mr. Stovall was a devoted husband, father and grandfather who enjoyed the friendships of many.
In addition to his wife, Mr. Stovall is survived by his daughter, Sandy Wickham( Ricky) of Bartlett; his son, David Stovall (Julie) of Memphis; two sisters, Oneta Thompson of Senatobia, MS, Doris Coleman of Sardis MS; his brother, John Stovall of Brighton; 4 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren.
Those honored to serve as casketbearers were David Stovall, Mark Wickham, Ray Huelsmann, John Carrico, Marvin Pierski and Glen Pate. Honorary casketbearers were members of the American Legion and members of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post # 5013.
