THOMAS GENE BOHANON, SR.

February 26, 1936 — September 20, 2008

THOMAS GENE BOHANON, SR., a resident of the Somerville Community and longtime Employee of the International Harvester Corporation, died at 8:15 P.M. Saturday, September 20, 2008 at his Somerville residence on Lynn Street. He was 72 years of age and died following a four-year illness.

Funeral services for Mr. Bohanon were conducted at 2 P.M. Tuesday, September 23rd at the Peebles Main Funeral Chapel in Somerville with the Rev. Bertie Moore of Bolivar, officiating. He was assisted by the Rev. Freddie Clifft, Pastor of the Shady Grove Baptist Church near Somerville. Interment followed in the Somerville City Cemetery. Arrangements were provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Homes-Main Chapel of Somerville.

Mr. Bohanon was born in Hardeman County, Tennessee on February 26, 1936. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ira T. Bohanon and Mary Elizabeth Vandiver Bohanon. He was educated in the Hardeman County Public School System and was a graduate of the Bolivar High School. He was married September 15, 1956 to the former Peggy Kelley of Somerville, who survives.

Mr. Bohanon had been a resident of Somerville since 1966 and was a member of the Shady Grove Baptist Church. He was employed as an Assemblyman for the International Harvester Company in Memphis and Springfield, Ohio, for many years before his retirement in 1998. His interests included fishing, baseball and out-of-door activities with his family.


In addition to his wife, Mr. Bohanon is survived by three daughters: Lisa Watson, Crystie Thompson (Albert Ray) and Tracy Roberts, all of Somerville; his son, Thomas "Butch" Bohanon (Susan) of Somerville; his sister, Ruby Clifft of Bolivar; nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by daughter Carol Kee earlier this year.

Those honored to serve as casketbearers were family members; Albert Ray Thompson, Dylan Thompson, Matt Thompson, Ethan Thompson, Tyler Thompson and Keith Watson.
