Thomas O'Neal Hoskins

February 14, 1950 — November 8, 2024

Whiteville, Tennessee

On November 8, 2024, Thomas O’Neal Hoskins completed his earthbound journey and moved on to the next great adventure. Thomas was born to Vernon and Wilma “Kathleen” Hoskins in Moscow, Tennessee on Valentine’s Day in 1950. He was a devoted son who cared for his father during his final days and lovingly supported his mother throughout her later years. Though his relationships with his children and grandchildren were complex, he leaves behind a family who will carry forward his stories and his spirit of adventure. His quick wit was a gift he passed on to his children, who carry it proudly.

Thomas served his country during the Vietnam War, earning the rank of Sergeant in the US Army and then went on to serve many years in the National Guard Army Reserve, embodying courage and resilience. He spoke fondly of his time in the service where he made lifelong friends.

He always sought out adventure, never being one to sit still for too long. He had many interests including his love of country westerns – especially John Wayne, immensely enjoyed sharing a meal with friends and family when given the opportunity. In his later years, he became a man of faith seeking spiritual knowledge and finding guidance in the bible. He was a devoted member of the Morris Chapel Baptist Church and the family is grateful to the members of the Church who kept him company, visiting him frequently in the hospital.

Thomas is preceded in death by his father, Vernon Hoskins, and his mother, Wilma “Kathleen” Thomas Hoskins. He is survived by his two younger brothers, Billy (Tammy) Hoskins and Bobby (Brenda) Hoskins, two children, Terrence (April) Hoskins and Natalie (Michael) Hoskins, three grandchildren, Cory (Justin) Hoskins, Raymond (Amber) Platt and Joseph (Christina) Dell, great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews who brought him pride, laughter, and joy. The family is immensely grateful to Leon Watkins for his care and friendship, and the staff at Baptist Memorial Hospital - Memphis for the kindness and compassion they showed.

Thomas was a man of many journeys, both inward and outward, and he will be remembered for his unique approach to life. The family requests donations be made to the American Heart Association in lieu of flowers.

Memorial Services for Mr. Hoskins will be held at 11 A.M. Friday, December 13, 2024 at West Tennessee Veterans Cemetery in Memphis.
