Thomas Jackson
1918—2010
Thomas Orville Jackson, Jr., resident of Memphis and former resident of the Gallaway Community died Thursday morning, December 30, 2010 at the Ave Maria Nursing Center in Memphis where he had been a resident for four years. He was 92 years of age and died following an extended illness.
Services of Remembrance for Mr. Jackson were conducted at 11 A.M. Monday, January 3

at the Peebles West Funeral Chapel at Oakland with Deacon Jack Chitwood of the Ave Maria Nursing Center, officiating. Interment with Military Honors followed in the Burrow Cemetery near Gallaway. Arrangements were provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Homes—West Chapel of Oakland.
Mr. Jackson was born in Fayette County on February 20, 1918. His parents, Beulah Cross Jackson and Thomas O. Jackson, Sr. preceded him in death. He was educated in the Shelby County Public School System and served in the United States Army during WW II. Mr. Thomas married August 5, 1941 the former Mildred Byars of Fayette County who preceded him in death on March 6, 2003.
He was an automobile mechanic throughout much of his life and was employed by the Bond Ford Motor Company in Arlington for a number of years before his retirement. Mr. Jackson was a Methodist and will be remembered as an outdoorsman who enjoyed nature, fishing, hunting and gardening. He also enjoyed special times with his children and grandchildren.

his three daughters: Jane Biggs Conley (Ron) of Sardis, MS, Barbara Glaser (Terry) of Bartlett, Tommie Drake (Robert) of Hickory Withe; grandchildren: Jennifer Biggs (Robert Brooks) of Memphis, Melissa Stivers (John) of Memphis, Amy Davidson of Bartlett, Max Glaser of New York City, Beth Carson of Lakeland, Sam Carson (Tina) of Brighton; great-grandchildren: Megan Biggs, Oliver Davidson, Lily Stivers, Kelsey Carson, Ivy Carson, Nolan Carson; and a sister: Juanita Thomas of Birmingham, AL.
Those honored to serve as casketbearers were
Bob Brooks, Sam Carson, Ron Conley, Robert Drake, Max Glaser, Terry Glaser and John Stivers.
