Thomas Masters, age 90, resident of the Oakland Community and husband of the late Peggy Sue Rice Masters, departed this life Monday morning, October 27, 2014 at the St. Francis Hospital in Bartlett.
Graveside Services with Military Honors for Mr. Masters were conducted at 11 A.M. Thursday, October 30th with Timothy Roland, pastor of the Ellendale Church of Christ in Bartlett, officiating. Interment followed in the Fayette County Memorial Park Cemetery on Highway 64. Arrangements were provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Homes & Cremation Center - West Chapel at Oakland.
Mr. Masters was born September 25, 1924 in Cedar Hill, Tennessee. He was preceded in death by his parents, Tom Masters and Ruth Watson Masters. He received his education in the Springfield, Tennessee Public School System and served his country in the United States Army during the World War II Period. He was married December 24, 1951 to the former Peggy Sue Rice, who preceded him in death on May 23, 2014.
Mr. Masters served as an industrial construction supervisor for a number of years before his retirement. He enjoyed outdoor activities that included fishing, hunting, riding four-wheelers, turkey shoots and grouse hunting.
Mr. Masters is survived by his daughter, Rhonda Masters Elrod (Steve) of Arlington, TN; his son, Thomas Mark Masters of Oakland, TN; and two grandchildren, Thomas Clay Masters and Jennifer Elrod Hicks.
In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by his grandson, Philip Todd Elrod.
