Thomas "Buddy" Albert Cates

Thomas Albert "Buddy" Cates, age 77, resident of the Hickory Withe Community and husband of Sadie Carol Cates, departed this life Friday morning, March 20, 2015 at his residence.

Services of Remembrance for Mr. Cates will be conducted at 3 P.M. Sunday, March 22nd at the Peebles West Funeral Chapel at Oakland with interment in the Eads Cemetery. A visitation for Mr. Cates will be from 2 to 3 P.M. Sunday, March 22nd at the Peebles West Funeral Chapel at Oakland. Arrangements will be provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Homes & Cremation Center - West Chapel at Oakland.

Mr. Cates was born March 21, 1937 in Memphis. He was preceded in death by his parents, Charlie Cates and Ada Henley Cates. He received his education in the Fayette County Public School System and was married for 54 years to the former Sadie Carol Green, who survives. Mr. Cates was employed in the heavy machine industry for a number of years as a mechanic before his retirement. He was a member of the Mercy Bridge Church in Somerville and a resident of the Hickory Withe Community for many years. He enjoyed gardening, NASCAR and watching westerns.

In addition to his wife, Mr. Cates is survived by three daughters, Donna Morrow Futrell (David) of Somerville, Debbie Cates of Brownsville, Cindy Price (Ronnie) of Moscow; his sister, Ruth Bishop of Whiteville; three grandchildren, Amanda Benner, Kimberly Morrow, Dylan High; and his great grandson, Zachary "ZZ" Benner.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four brothers, Ed Cates, Eddie Arton Cates, Steve Cates and Jeff Cates.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four sisters, Carline Devore, Pauline Goodman, Naomi Johnson and Minnie Johnson.

Those honored to serve as casketbearers will be Murray Goodman, Richard McIntyer, Mark Benner, Jimmy Bridges, Franklin High and David Goodman.

Honorary casketbearers will be Terry Morrow and Johnny Wright.

The family requests that memorials be directed to the Fayette County Chapter of the American Cancer Society, c/o Linda Taylor, 16845 U.S. Highway 64, Somerville, TN 38068.
