Thomas Gene Jackson, resident of the Williston Community, U.S. Veteran and husband of Alice Jackson, departed this life Monday morning, March 17, 2014 at his residence. He was 71 years of age and died following a brief illness.
Services of Remembrance with Military Honors for Mr. Jackson were conducted at 1 P.M. Wednesday, March 19th at the Peebles Main Funeral Chapel in Somerville with his son, Bro. Rickey Burns, pastor of Williston Baptist Church, officiating. Personal remarks were given by his son, Stan Pilant. Interment followed in the West Tennessee State Veterans Cemetery at Germantown. Arrangements were provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Homes and Cremation Center — Main Chapel of Somerville.
Mr. Jackson was born February 4, 1943 in Milan, Tennessee. He was preceded in death by his parents, Rev. Tommy Jackson and Hazel Coil Jackson. He received his education in the Dyer County, Tennessee Public School System and continued his education at the University of Tennessee in Martin and the Lambuth College in Jackson. In earlier years, he served in the United States Air Force.
He was married June 3, 1983 to the former Alice Faye Hill, a native of Haywood County, Tennessee, who survives. Mr. and Mrs. Jackson were former residents of Clarksville, Indiana, where they served for over 20 years as manager of a mobile home park before their retirement in 2005. Mr. and Mrs. Jackson moved to the Williston Community in 2008 to be near family members.
Mr. Jackson was a member of the Williston Baptist Church and his interests included woodworking and all kinds of tools. He enjoyed collecting all kinds of ink pens and model cars. He will be remembered as a person who was devoted to his family and remained active until his unexpected death.
In addition to his wife of 30 years, Mr. Jackson is survived by his daughter, Nina Booher (Joe) of Casey Creek, KY; two sons, Bro. Rickey Burns (Sissy) of Williston, Stan Pilant (Dee) of Stanton; his brother, Jere Jackson (Cindi) of Memphis; six grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
Those honored to serve as casketbearers were Dale Burns, Bernard Murphy, Josh McQueen, Harry Warf, Randy Glover, Ed Gaugh and Chris Burns.
The family requests that memorials be directed to the Williston Baptist Church, 5925 Railroad Street, Williston, TN 38076.
